NejiKako is so good for the soul.<3 (Can we make some crazy shipping names for these DOS ships akin to the Pokemon fandom's ship names? Like, Sweet Sunshine for NaruKako, etc etc (that was so bad, i'm so bad at this haha))

jacksgreysays:

šŸ˜€ Thanks! My multi-shipping heart greatly appreciates the exercise, so…

I both do and don’t enjoy particularly flowery ship names–because on the one hand, it’s a nice way to describe your ship and it tends to also create and easy aspect that explains why shippers would ship such a thing. But on the other, unless you have a massive glossary explaining which is which, it’s really freaking hard to figure out what ship you are reading and for some people who are not multi-shippers, that can be a disaster. I mean, even as a multi-shipper, I like to know going into a story what I’m reading you know? Yu-Gi-Oh was so difficult for me to navigate, I swear to god.

That being said, I always figured that theĀ ā€œSunshineā€ moniker was for Naruto. (And I kind of assume that Shikako is Stars and Sasuke is Moon just to complete the set of celestial bodies). SoĀ ā€œCaged Sunshineā€ would translate to me as more of a Neji/Naruto ship? And ā€œSweet Sunshineā€ would be… Anko/Naruto?

I guess for this story, I’d want something that not only reflects the Shikako/Neji ship but also the fact that it’s Hana’s POV? Maybe some kind of scent/smell pun…

edit: Ooh, just spotted it now! @the-grand-gemini suggestedĀ ā€œHide and Seekā€ I think I’m going to tweak it a bit and make it ā€œHiding and Seeking.ā€ Thanks for the suggestion šŸ˜€

Ooh, okay. See I always interpreted the title as Shikako’s POV of Naruto (the series) which is about Naruto the character, soĀ ā€œSunshineā€ is Naruto andĀ ā€œDreamingā€ is Shikako. So with Neji as theĀ ā€œCaged Birdā€ I’d probably do something like:Ā

ā€œCaged Sunshineā€ is Neji/Naruto because what a relationship between them would be built on is, most likely, the wholeĀ ā€œwe both of seals and our lives suck but Naruto has remained optimistic/determined and Neji wants to do the sameā€ so the Cage is in reference to their seals and the Sunshine is, yes, reference to Naruto but also the change Naruto’s Therapy-no-jutsu had in Neji’s life.

Shikako/Neji I’d flip it around and doĀ ā€œDreams of Flightā€ or something like that since, as I interpret a Shikako/Neji relationship, it would be about the both of themĀ ā€˜breaking free’ of expectations and oppression. I don’t think there would ever be a Shikako/Neji relationship where, unless Neji specifically asked her not to for some reason, Shikako wouldn’t eventually work on trying to remove the Caged Bird seal. It’s less about accepting the hand they’ve been dealt and more about saying,Ā ā€œno, fuck you, I’m not going to follow your rules.ā€

So Dreams is reference to Shikako, but also to the hope that Neji would have to change his fate, and Flight is both a freedom thing and about how a relationship between the two of them is more… I don’t know how to say this… verb-y? than some of my interpretations for other ships. Like there’s a sense of, they’re both going to achieve great heights together, or they’re going to plummet to the ground.

This is way more thought than I put into some of my other titles. If I could retroactively rename Dreaming of S(omething) without it being a total pain of tag hunting, I probably would. I mean I hadn’t consciously acknowledged this is what I do, but now that I think of it, I suppose this explains the more recent series likeĀ ā€œWaking Up Starstruckā€ (Naruto/Shikako) andĀ ā€œStars Also Dreamā€ (Yoshino-centric but with the theme that Yoshino is more like her daughter, or vice versa, than anyone realizes).

ooohhh your dragon rider!team 7 au sounds so fascinating?? what sorts of dragons would they ride? what would they even do as dragon riders??

Ooh, okay, okay. So there’s some differences between the Temeraire style versus the How To Train Your Dragon style of dragon riding, and I feel like in order to best translate the Naruto world, I’d have to pull bits and pieces from each.

So in HTTYD, the dragons are more like pets–cats/dogs/birds–with roughly the same level of intelligence. Maybe the bigger ones (the Queen and the Alphas/Bewilderbeasts) are a little more intelligent but, over all, they’re animals. Amazing, magical animals yes, but animals all the same.

In Temeraire, the dragons are sentient (if not sapient–because they are a different species and would have different way of thinking/prioritizing) and they’re massive. The majority of the dragons in HTTYD would be in the courier or light combat classification, and Temeraire has an additional two larger classes of middleweight and heavyweight.

Maybe the Queen and Alphas/Bewilderbeasts are middleweights? But the heavyweights are like ships–they have captains and flight crews of up to forty people as well as a ground crew and they can straight up carry smaller dragons easily. The larger the dragon, the longer the lifespan and dragon’s captaincies tend to be passed down in a family for multiple generations.

And while Temeraire style dragons don’t quite have a telepathic bond with their captains there’s a little bit of a… imprinting process? Like, if newly hatched dragons don’t imprint on a person, they go feral and won’t ever take a captain. And while captaincies can and will eventually be transferred it’s not as good as the original imprinted captain. (I think? It’s been a while since I read any Temeraire stuff)

Probably, the bijuu are the only heavyweights that exist in this dragon rider AU. The problem is, though, that I’m pretty sure the Uchiha clan would at least have had some light combat dragons that Sasuke would have inherited–if not middleweight–and those also require crews (but probably smaller, about ten people). Unless Itachi killed them all? But how would that even… hrm…

Okay so if we want Team Seven to have similar relationships in this AU as what they have in canon, then they either need to be part of the same dragon’s flight crew OR they are each captains of different dragons who are part of the same flight formation. On the one hand, Naruto really ought to be captain of Kyuubi and Sasuke ought to be captain of at least one if not multiple Uchiha clan dragons, but it would be weird for Shikako (from a ā€œclan of ground walkersā€) to be captain of her own dragon as well.

So maybe… maybe the Uchiha only had the one middleweight–for the clan head’s line–and a bunch of light combat/couriers. So Itachi could have killed his father, inherited the family dragon, and killed all the light combat/couriers leaving Sasuke without a dragon to captain. Then the Kyuubi, who had not liked Kushina and won’t even give Naruto the time of day, is hibernating away. The threat of his existence is enough to deter the other countries from invading, but it’s true that they can’t utilize his full potential until Naruto can convince him to fight on Konoha’s behalf.

So Team Seven is the crew of Pakkun, the Hatake clan’s middleweight (and maybe the other dog summons are Pakkun’s ground crew?). The other members of Pakkun’s flight formation are Ningame carrying Team Gai, Enma (who Asuma has a strained relationship with) carryin Team Ten, and… Akamaru carrying Team Eight?

Yeah, so, Enma is the oldest dragon and has loudly stated that he prefers Hiruzen–his first captain–to Asuma so there’s that drama. Pakkun and Ningame are about the same age and imprinted on their respective captains at about the same time. Akamaru is the youngest and only recently imprinted on Kiba–so while they have enough potential to be combat ready, and Kiba is technically Akamaru’s captain, Kurenai is captain of the crew. Hinata might or might not inherit her father’s dragon–or, like in canon, it might end up with Hanabi.

Erm, well, most likely because battle styles are different, flight formations aren’t used very frequently so the different Teams are independent of each other.

In Temeraire, this is during the Regency Era so Britain is at war–hence flight formations and flight crews. While I’m reluctant to say there’s full-blown war going on in the Elemental Nations, it’s very likely that the Air Force is meant to maintain the territories/borders. Akatsuki is probably trying to instigate full blown war in order to capture the bijuu (as per canon) although this time they’re actually doing it to take over the world not to do a giant genjutsu or summon an alien princess monster.

So they’re starting a world war as a distraction for some heists and murders to take over the world? … yeah. That sounds about right. And, hey, this actually makes Nagato’s Uzumaki heritage important rather than just some bullshit throwaway thing that wasn’t explored at all! šŸ˜€

So Shukaku is near feral. Technically Gaara is his captain, but only technically–Karura was his captain before and, as per canon, died in childbirth, and Shukaku is so pissed off and bitter and basically Shukaku and Gaara have a worse relationship than Enma and Asuma, not even bringing up how Shukaku is at least twice as big and powerful as Enma.

The Nibi and Hachibi are, again, as per canon, pretty well behaved and captained by Yugito and Killer B. Professional, if not intimate. Sanbi has already been stolen and is captained by Kisame. Akatsuki’s threat is due to that they probably have a way to rewrite dragon imprinting/brainwash them like Drago and the Bewilderbeast in HTTYD2. Etc. etc.

I like the idea that Waterfall has Nanabi–the sole heavyweight not owned by the Big Five–and no middleweights whatsoever. Only couriers and light combat class. So there’s just this massive sparkly dragon surrounded by tiny dragons.

I feel like the jinchuuriki who are missing nin wouldn’t translate all that well because how do you lose track of a 50 ton dragon? And their forty person crew. It’s not like being a single jinchuuriki where it’s just like I, an individual, will leave the village in the middle of the night and hide from hunter nin. A bijuu leaving would be like a battleship just sailing away and no one being able to find it–not only would the entire crew have to agree, the captain and bijuu would have to as well and continuously hide?

… Actually… I guess that’s not too out there if they focus more on threats than subtlety. ā€œI am leaving now, if you try to make me and my captain stay I will attack you and I am the most powerful dragon in your militaryā€ instead of ā€œLalala, I’m a massive dragon disappearing in the night, no one can find meeeeee.ā€

And a lot of the adventure is Team Seven flying around, stumbling across the Akatsuki conspiracy, and trying to convince the other countries to listen/trying to convince the missing captains to join the efforts to stop Akatsuki/trying to convince Kyuubi to accept Naruto as his captain.

Ultimate big bad in this AU would be Pein aka Nagato, I think, because I don’t know how an Obito-Madara storyline would work, much less the Zetsu-Kaguya and Indra-Ashura nonsense. LET THE UZUMAKI NAME BE RELEVANT!

I’ve been on a pride and prejudice kick, so can I ask for DOS!regency au? Or an expansion on the rock star/muse thing from the three sentences

Let’s see… Ā Regency!AU… hm…

The problem, anon, is that although I do also love Pride and Prejudice I’m really bad at imagining things in the Regency setting? Like… I love historical fiction, and I’m all for when authors write time periods accurately, but I myself cannot do it. I’m more of anĀ ā€œambiguously olden timesā€ orĀ ā€œnon-specific modern timesā€ or, as I’m about to go intoĀ ā€œhistorical influenced by magic.ā€

I once read–and to this day, even if it’s quite short, it’s my favorite–a Pride and Prejudice fic that was an AU fusion with the Temeraire series. And it’s so brilliant because it is set during Regency period but it also has DRAGONS. It still has the flavor of historical fiction, but the existence of dragons means some details can be hand waved away, some deliberate changes are grounded in magical world-building, and you can play around with how characters might translate differently. For example, in that fic, Elizabeth is part of the Air Force (because, get this, dragons prefer women as their riders so a majority of the Air Force are women but this is kept a secret from the general public) and it’s fantastic because it fits her so perfectly.

Because, okay, the human relationships and romantic dramedy that is Pride and Prejudice is still one of my favorites without magic, but I don’t think I’d ever be able to do a fic entirely around human relationship and romantic dramedy without itching to throw in some action or magic/scifi. Also, I’m not sure what the Regency era (or the equivalent thereof… mid/late Tokugawa Period?) was like in Japan. Also also, it’d be easier to translate the Naruto universe into a universe that has magic as well? Actually, I think I did a three sentence fic of Team Seven as dragon riders here, but I didn’t specify it was a Temeraire!AU.

Hm… the thing is, even if I were to lean into the Regency-like aspect, the respective clans would have to come into play. They’d haaaaaaave to. Shikako is the only daughter of the head of the Nara clan, yeah, but the Nara clan are subordinate to the Noble Akimichi clan so she’s not really that high up.Ā

Compare to Sasuke who is the only living/legitimate member of the Noble Uchiha clan which makes him THE most eligible bachelor. And then there’s Naruto who is also the last of his (most likely Noble as well) clan but the Uzumaki clan has long since been devastated which means he has no wealth to his name. On top of that his parents were probably not married or they eloped or–and is this fanon or headcanon or actual canon–even though Minato was well-liked he was still civilian stock orphan, so Naruto’s existence is no doubt scandalous not even including whatever the equivalent of the Kyuubi is in this world.

How would they even meet each other? Their class levels are all over the place. Their lifestyles are all over the place. Unless there’s dragons as the great equalizer. Yeah? šŸ˜€

—

Now as for an expansion of theĀ rockstar and muse!AU…

Honestly? I didn’t really think of that universe beyond the most basic to fill the three sentence fic prompt. But now that I consider it, how did they even meet? How did they fall in love? How does their relationship work? DO THEY OWN ANY PETS? (The answer to this one, unfortunately, is probably no. Gaara is on the road too often, and Shikako sometimes doesn’t come home for days if she’s in the middle of a project.)

Let’s see… how did they meet? I know for sure this is before the Sand Trio made it big–because in order for Shikako to be Gaara’s muse, she has to be the one to inspire him–so that means they were probably doing small gigs, like at bars and stuff, or maaaybe a Battle of the Bands type situation, but I like imaging the Sand Trio doing small time gigs in bars. The kinds of bars that graduate students might frequent because it’s one in the morning and nowhere else is serving food. And sure it’s bar food, but at least it’s not ramen or an entire bag of chips or the iffy three day old take out that’s in the fridge of the shared kitchen.

So, probably, their very first meeting, Shikako is at the bar run/owned by… Anko? Who she knows because the kunoichi group is still something that exists–maybe as a sorority or some other club–and also Anko works in the psych department during the day? So she has an entire corner of the bar to herself just absolutely covered in research notes and she is mainlining bar food and coffee unlike, probably, everyone else in the bar who is there to, you know, drink. Maybe dance, there are some live bands playing, after all.

And the thing is, Gaara is in the band for the music. He doesn’t (and will never, really) be in it for the audience or the scene–Kankurou and Temari are performers, Gaara not so much–so when he’s not on stage with a guitar in his hand he kind of just wallflowers it up. And Shikako’s corner has been strategically chosen for it’s lighting/minimal noise/proximity to air conditioning, etc. So he wanders over and sits and is like… this woman beside me has been consuming nothing but coffee and chicken wings and he is absolutely baffled. And a little concerned?

Because Shikako’s starting to approach that weird point of maximum caffeine intake/sleep deprivation and she’s about ready to vibrate out of her skin, I swear to god, if this formula does not make sense in the next three seconds I will set everything on fire! And Gaara’s just like–do you need help? And then they talk, Shikako starts off ranting about her current project and how she’s been brought up to the ethics board because one of her friends talked about it in front of the wrong person and it’s not that she’s mad at Sakura, really, but it’s still frustrating and now she needs to jump through all sorts of hoops and redundancies in order to keep her thesis on track and then it turns into a proper conversation about, I dunno, those late night thoughts about how you ended up where you are now and about the people in your life and how you do what you can to keep the people you love because loneliness is worse than frustration or anger and Gaara goes home and writes a song calledĀ ā€œWound of the Heart.ā€

It’s not the Sand Trio’s most popular song, but years from now music historians will consider this the beginning of the Sand Trio’s rise.

How did they fall in love? Well, probably much the same as how they’d fall in love in canon. With Shikako being absolutely oblivious until the last second and Gaara patiently seeking her out and spending time with her and being absolutely inspired by her. At one point someone–probably Ino–has to point out to Shikako that literally all of Sand Trio’s songs are, in some way shape or form, about her.

Temari’s a little sick of all the blatant emotions, and while she can’t completely understand the songs she can get them enough to perform them. Kankurou, frankly, has never seen his baby brother pining after someone before and while he’s never been in love he does like how the fans think he’s a huge romantic.

They both write a few songs, too–not nearly as prolific as their little brother, though–and somehow those are still also about Shikako:Ā ā€œQuality of Mercy,ā€Ā ā€œBrothers, Sisters, Brutality,ā€ ā€œSpark Boom Pow,ā€ andĀ ā€œAlways You.ā€ (That last one, oddly enough, is not a love song. It was written by Kankurou and mostly referenced how, every time something really bizarre happened at one of their performances Shikako was always nearby if not the direct cause of it).

As to how their relationship works. The same way a lot of relationships work: negotiation and effort and knowing that–no matter how different they may be, no matter how infrequently they may see each other–they still love each other and want to make it work.

Language in YOI

depressedfangirl93:

jacksgreysays:

I’M STILL RIDING THE EMOTIONAL HIGH OF YURI!!! ON ICE EPISODE TEN, AND I’M TECHNICALLY ONLY FANDOM ADJACENT (I prefer watching things in one long binge session, but I still love watching the fandom’s reactions to episodes as they come out. Spoilers are not really a concern for me).

I am also absolutely in love with all of the analyses of the series post ep 10 plot twist (especiallyĀ @tumblngkoriā€˜s analyses of the series from Victor’s POV) now that we know the full story. I’m not sure if someone’s already brought this up but and this is just me being a dork who can’t find the right post, but…

I was wondering if anyone had perhaps analyzed the series with the matter of language during everything? Like, obviously, most everything is said in Japanese because that’s who the target audience is, but I wonder how much would be in what language if it were IRL. English is probably used most during the group scenes, but what do Yuuri and Victor use between them? Japanese? Russian? Some amalgamation of the three?

Especially consider Yuuri’s drunken state at the banquet? Maybe the only part Victor literally understood was ā€œBe my coach, Victorā€ at the end in English and the rest of it was in drunkenly slurred Japanese.

Thoughts?

The creators have confirmed that Yuuri and Victor speak mostly english with each other. Many fans speculate that Victor is learning japanese (he say ā€œgambaiā€ in episode 8 and his phone screen in ep 10 is in hiragana), and that Yuuri is learning russin (he say ā€œdavaiā€ and ā€œvkusnoā€ in ep 10), some also speculate that Yuuri knows a bit of thai (and that Phichit knows a bit of japanese). For the ther characters I think Minako, Yuuko, and Mari all know english very well, Celestino cleary knows italian (look at how much moves his hands while talking! He his 100% italian XD). In general any graituitus english/russian/italian/ecc or used of dialect is used as a sign that the character are speaking in that language or slipping to their mother tongue (Victor saying ā€œvkusnoā€ or Yuuri slipping back to his dialect while drunk).
I hope you find my blabbing interesting and you find something useful ^^’ There are more knowledgeable people in the fandom, if you are interested I can give you some names. šŸ™‚

šŸ˜€ Thanks!

Given the ep 10 plot twist which completely upheaves a lot of fans’ perspective on events (especially Victor’s POV and the extent of Yuuri as an unreliable narrator), I was curious how much information is meant to be secret to which characters.

Like–early on Yurio probably talks to Victor in Russian, even when Yuuri is around, unless it’s to specifically complain about Yuuri or insult him. In which case they all use English. So I guess mostly I was just wondering which conversations were comprehensible to which characters at any given point in time, you know? And that would influence reliability of characters as narrators since they may very well not know what is being said around them.

God, I would love to do aĀ ā€œlinguistically accurateā€ edit of YOI using different dubs. Not even just watch it? I would be all over that project in a dream world where time/equipment/content is available to me. Just shut me in a tiny room with Adobe Premier Pro and HOURS OF FOOTAGE (♄o♄)/Ā (GIVE IT TO MEEEEEEEE)

(✿ ♄‿♄) Yeah!

Okay, let’s see, I don’t particularly want to assign different Elemental Nations to different regions, so let’s pull Pokemon from all generations, if that’s okay?

First off, single type teams just do not work because if Kakashi is any single type he would be Electric and there aren’t enough Electric-type dogs to make a full team. And I feel like him having dogs is more important than him having Electric type so he’s one of the Elite Four, but here that’s not a type thing:

Pakkun is most likely a Herdier/Stoutland–he was Kakashi’s starter, given to him by his father (a former Elite Four member himself) and, even though he doesn’t usually fight, his experience and knowledge is valuable.

Other members of Kakashi’s team includes Granbull, Mightyena, Furfrou, Lycanroc, and Houndoom. (Supposedly, Kakashi also has the Legendary Raikou, but surely that’s just a rumor.) Heck yeah, it’s an all dog team!

The Nara clan are known for their herds of Sawsbuck, and all Nara children’s starters are Deerling. Shikako’s second Pokemon was a Growlithe which has evolved into a massive Arcanine that likes cuddling. The rest of her team includes: Sableye (who can now turn into Mega Sableye due to the Sablenite found in the Gelel Shrine?) and maaaaaaybe Onix, Staryu, and Voltorb?

The Uchiha clans, likewise, used to give their children Fletchlings–even though there was no longer a clan to formally do so when Sasuke became of age, the Talonflame flocks stuck around and one Fletchling joined him on his journey. Other members of Sasuke’s team are possibly: Lunatone, Hawlucha, Cubone, Luxio, and Bisharp?

It’s said that, if one should be powerful enough to live for over one thousand years, that a Ninetails can rival even a Legendary Pokemon and develop psychic powers. Of course, that’s just a story. There’s been no sighting of such a mythical creature in generations, and how would a human possibly control such a powerful Pokemon before the creation of Master Balls? Naruto’s team includes: Politoed, Scrafty, Solrock, Mimikyu, Sudowoodo, and Emolga.

Probably the shinobi of this world are more like the Pokemon Ranger trainer classĀ or police officers in that the Leagues/Villages of each respective area are in charge of making sure wild Pokemon and people are safe. The ones that end up on elite jounin-led teams are Ace Trainers.

Akatsuki are the bad guys, with some Oto and Ame sprinkled in for grunts, and the Kages are the Champions? And the other jounin sensei are the other Elite Four. So the coming of age for the Konoha Twelve is the first time that all of the Elite Four have training teams. And, like in canon, Team Seven’s missions are incredibly weird–it’s almost like they see Legendary Pokemon every other time they leave the village.

There’s no real plot, though, just fusing canon into a Pokemon world and replacing jutsu with Pokemon.

(Sorry this is so messy, anon, I’m having trouble organizing my thoughts for this. But if you’re curious about my choice in Pokemon for I can totally explain if you’d like?)

I think, if I were to write this, it would be more of a Naruto-style society except where Pokemon replaces chakra. Like, the shinobi are the full out teams of six battlers while the civilian are the same as people in Pokemon games who aren’t trainers but do own one or two Pokemon as pets. Then nobility is probably more about the pedigrees and possibly participate in the pageant-like competitions.

So there are still clans and such, and like in canon, being part of a clan is a head start–clan kids grow up around Pokemon their whole lives, while civilian kids don’t get their starter until after they graduate from the Academy? Hm… that’s a pretty big disparity. Maybe it’s something like… you’re legally only allowed to own two Pokemon unless you’re a League certified Trainer then you can get up to six.

So they’re not just thrown together with a strange Pokemon and two other kids on a team with an Elite Four and expected to roll with it. So students of the Academy do have one or two Pokemon, but they have to graduate to get more. Which makes more sense?

Okay, Pokemon team breakdowns:

Kakashi’s is fairly obvious, I think. There were some other dogs that I was considering, such as Manectric and Smeargle and Arcanine, but Arcanine went to Shikako because it fit super perfectly and I feel like Manectric and Smeargle are both too… cartoony. Also, I’m pretty sure if anyone owns a Smeargle it’s Sai.

The Nara with the Deerling and Sawsbuck herds were a must. And their medicine would no doubt be even more elevated by harvesting from a Grass type deers that also change every season. Arcanine, I’ll admit, is mostly because of the fantastic art by kristinaxx0 but the more I thought about it, the more it just kind of fit? Growlithe must be very common in Land of Fire, and no doubt Shikako stumbled on a lost Growlith puppy that just followed her everywhere.

Sableye as Dark/Ghost works pretty well for Shikako even before the Gelel arc leading to the stone and Shikako’s first in-world death. Reincarnated Nara, anyone? I’m less sure about the following three, but given her Earth nature and penchant for GIANT PILLARS OF STONE, I figured Onix would work quite well. And, well, as @to-someplace-else said, Voltorb? ~Self Destruct~

Staryu, I admit, is more to match up with the boys’ Solrock and Lunatone. DoS is Shikako’s story but there’s always going to be this back and forth between Naruto and Sasuke. So her star isn’t really part of the sun and moon of her teammates, but it still fits a little and I quite like that.

The Uchiha’s crest is a fan and their family jutsu are Fire natured and then the whole hawk contract, so even though it’s not as one to one as the Nara and the Sawsbuck, I think Talonflame works best. Lunatone I’ve already explained above. Hawlucha I think he gets later on, if not the last one he gets, because I kind of wanted to represent his time skip changes in DoS–hawk contract and ANBU and to reflect the fact that he is the taijutsu specialist among Team Seven.

Cubone is just, I mean, pretty obvious right? A reflection of his past as the last (loyal) Uchiha. Luxio is a bit of a mix to show–hm, how do I say this–what he inherited from the living. That is, the Chidori from Kakashi and coming to terms with the Itachi of the past and present via the Neko-baa and pawprint mission. Bisharp is… the way I’d express it, he would have had a Pawniard in canon or DoS but in DoS it evolves into Bisharp during the Sasuke Retrieval Arc and in canon it doesn’t until post time-skip. It’s a representation of Sasuke’s life choices, basically.

Politoed and all of it’s line, besides being the same as Naruto’s summoning contract, also has the Uzumaki swirl which *clenches fist* doesn’t drown me in Uzushio feels at all, nope, none here. Scrafty I think emulates Naruto pre-graduation, all mischief and anger and brawling. Solrock explained above.

I honestly think Naruto would empathize quite a bit with Mimikyu. Lonely but trying to make friends, disguising itself to be more approachable. Yeah, I think Naruto would love Mimikyu and vice versa. Sudowoodo kind of is a more light-hearted side of the trickster and disguise expert that Naruto was way in the beginning before canon just dropped that idea. But something that looks like a tree but isn’t? And look at how happy it is! And ~Konoha~

Emolga I’m least sure about, but I wanted a small non-bird Flying type and I also just like the idea of Emolga just chilling on Naruto’s head one second and then being all up in someone’s grill the next.

A huge list of Pokemon that I was considering but didn’t make the cut or didn’t fit one team member in particular under the cut:

Ahaha, yeah, the Absol as a herald of disaster just feels right for Team Seven as a whole. šŸ™‚

I don’t know if Lee would have an Eevee, but I do like the idea of Team Gai each having one of the Tyrogue line. Not as their starter, but probably a gift Gai gave them when they became his team? So Hitmonlee for Lee, Hitmonchan for TenTen, and Hitmontop for Neji.

Lee’s team would be only Normal and Fighting type to reflect his taijutsu-only ways, whereas TenTen probably has some Steel types and Neji has some Psychic. Which also kind of goes with the whole ā€œNeji always wins against Lee even though Lee is faster than godā€ given the type weaknesses.

Let’s see, as for Team Ten? Maaaybe…

Shikamaru: Sawsbuck (Normal/Grass), Slaking (Normal), Nuzleaf (Grass/Dark), Drowzee (Psychic), Lampent (Ghost/Fire), and Altaria (Dragon/Flying)

A huge list of Pokemon that I was considering but didn’t make the cut or didn’t fit one team member in particular under the cut:

edit: also, kind of wrote a thing for thisĀ ā€œArm in Arm (no better team than you and me)ā€

Absol–the ā€œDisaster Pokemonā€ā€“I figured Absol would frequently show up around the Lucky Sevens but wouldn’t ever actually become one of their Pokemon.
Zangoose–basically a mongoose that hates snakes. They’re all anti-Orochimaru, but no one more than the others in particular, and probably it’d be Anko or one of Anko’s team.
Chingling–for Kakashi, because the Bell Test. Though I wonder if there’s just this ancient Chingling that the League has as a mascot and if any team of new trainers can last more than five minutes against it, they get to be students of an Elite Four member?
Lucario–for Kakashi, but I like the idea of it was more a temporary partnership? Or Lucario was Sakumo’s Pokemon and disappeared after Sakumo’s suicide. So there’s some connection, but its not really Kakashi’s.
Musharna–for Shikako, because ~dreaming~… That was it, really.
Nidoqueen–for Shikako, because ~queen~… and also since Nidoqueen is also a Ground type that could double for her Earth nature.
Swellow–for Sasuke, it had the Uchiha colors and the Flying type-fan crest but it didn’t emulate it as well as Talonflame.
Staraptor–for Sasuke, for the same reason as above.
Gallade–for Sasuke, I wanted to capture the ability to copy taijutsu with Sharingan thing, but for Fighting type I ended up preferring Hawlucha for more plot based reasons.
Pyroar–for Sasuke, as an alternative to Luxio, but I didn’t want too much Fire-type for his team.
Ditto–for Naruto, more in line with his penchant for henge early on.
Toxicroak–for Naruto, because ~toads~ but I don’t think a Poison-type really works for Naruto’s personality.
Greninja–for Naruto, because, again, more toads (though I know technically its a frog and that’s different) and also because ninja is literally in the name. But then I realized if anyone is going to own Greninja it wouldn’t be Naruto, it would be Konohamaru.
Ledian–for Naruto, because ladybugs are good luck?

And because I’m a sucker for Eeveelutions, but didn’t include one on any team, I think it’d be: Kakashi has Jolteon, Shikako has Umbreon, Sasuke has Flareon, and Naruto has… hm… either Leafeon or Sylveon. Or! An un-evolved Eevee.

Pokemon trainers Team 7!!!

Thoughts?

OOH! You know what would be a cool thing? If someone were to like… collect all the different dubs of YOI and edit together a linguistically-accurate version of the series.

Like this series must be so multi-lingual inĀ ā€œreal lifeā€. I wonder how many conversations go over other people’s heads because it’s in a language they don’t speak, even though they are present. For example: Viktor and Yurio definitely talk to each other in Russian during their argument in episode 10, but do they speak to each other in Russion in previous episodes even when Yuuri is present?

(I’ll be honest, if I had a computer that didn’t overheat after fifteen minutes of the most basic programs, I’d probably be all over this myself.)

Ask Box Advent Calendar 2016 Announcement?

In the wake of my whiplash writing emotions/self-esteem and the realization that tomorrow is December 1st (and thus one month from this blog’s second birthday) I kinda want to do an Ask Box Advent Calendar event of sorts but I’m not entirely sure what I want that to entail…

Because I don’t want this to just be another Ask Box Three Sentence Fic session (though that was fun and I will probably do that again in the future)–mostly due to the fact that I’d like to step away from the medium of three sentence fic for a while–and I also do have some DoS prompts pending* (most of which I do plan on filling eventually**) so I don’t want to just invite a whole flood of other prompts that will, undoubtedly, push them even further back.

So I guess what I’m saying is that I’d like to do a Schrƶdinger’s cat sort of thing in which y’all send me prompts (or personal questions if anyone is at all curious about me and/or my opinions on things) via the ask box for the month of December and I’ll either try to fill/answer them or write an outline/brainstorm/rant of how I would fill/answer them or why I can’t… if that makes any sense?

Like, y’all can even ā€œresubmitā€ some of the prompts from the Ask Box Three Sentence Fic session–I can try to do larger fill for it or at the very least outline how I’d attempt to make a full fic for it. Or if you’re wondering what my headcanon is for if/how a certain ship would/could work. Or, I’ll admit, that ask about mono vs poly relationships was pretty fun to answer so if anyone has similar questions that’d be cool, too.

Does that sound at all interesting to anyone?

* (list of pending DoS prompts under cut)
** (if anyone sees their prompt on the list and would like toĀ ā€œresubmitā€ that prompt for the Advent Calendar because it’s been a really long time since you’ve submitted it and at this point you’d rather have an outline/brainstorm than wait whoever knows how long for an ever decreasing chance of a prose fill then let me know because, well, I’ll be honest, some of them have been languishing for an embarrassingly long time and now they’re beginning to haunt me like the various Ghosts of Christmas Insert-Relative-Time-Term-Here)
