In Tamed, do you think Sasuke has to hold on to his fury and his vengeance to stay awake, or his he clear of it once he’s woken … or maybe he’s clear of it, but (because of the trauma) can’t really differentiate between normal tiredness and the way the curse came upon him?

I think, in a parallel of canon, Itachi did “spare” Sasuke from the entirety of the curse. So, since in this AU he put the entire kingdom to sleep instead of killing everyone, Sasuke’s sleep curse is probably a partial thing with a set of conditionals to break it or something like that? So it was weaker to begin with and he broke it himself because of Vengeance.

But, as you said, there is the trauma side of it which probably causes him to avoid sleeping in exchange for obsessive training. Or just really persistent insomnia.

**offers a hug** I hope you’re okay! If you’re too bushed to write, then don’t feel bad about missing posts. You don’t owe us anything, and writing should be for fun more than a duty. I hope you feel better soon <3

**hugs back** Thanks, to-someplace-else. And @pricefudge and @donapoetrypassion and anyone else who may have the well wishes if not the words.

The posts I’ve queued for the next few days are byproducts of my insomnia and boredom, so it’s more of me using stuff I already have anyway. This blog has always been a personal challenge to myself to write once a day–that’s changed over time to just posting once a day, extending to things like brainstorms and character statistics and rant and meta analysis.

Sometimes I am too tired to write, but it’s never something I dread or resent and certainly not because of my followers. I’m glad that there are people who read what I write–people who like my writing enough to like me, as a person, and worry about my emotional well being.

I’m kind of curious here, how do three d6 get a 23? Don’t three d6 get a sum between 3 to 18?

Oh, whoops, it’d be plus whatever the related skill/stat is. I guess I forgot to include that (let me do that now). Like for example if you’re trying to outrun an explosion and you roll three 6s and ALSO have 5 in speed, you’d get a 23 total which is an EPIC SUCCESS. (… which means you run so fast that the explosion is trying to escape you?)

So not only do you totally succeed in outrunning the explosion, the triple 6s gives you a boost/advantage, AND the “epic” part means… I don’t know… you get to declare a story detail or something?

if bijuus are an earth phenomena, would that mean other jinchuriki also exists? (from another planet, maybe?) and would they also be half-gems or would their gems have the special ability to contain jinchuurikis?

I’m not sure, actually. Hm…

The idea with the Kyuubi was that as Home World began turning Earth into a colony, it was a group of Obsidians who woke it up in the heart of a volcano and led to its angry rampage causing Home World to retreat…

I was keeping Strong In The Real Way fairly close to Konoha–both the human town that Naruto and Kakashi live in and Home World are full of Konoha characters–so I hadn’t thought about the other villages.

…Actually, now that I think of it, I don’t think my timelines work out very well?

Naruto is only a teenager but Shikako has been with the Nara clan for generations?

Oh, unless the Obsidians were sacrificed to contain the Kyuubi for several centuries or so, and there were a lot of gems left behind in the scramble to get off planet. Then when the seal broke on the Kyuubi, Kushina and Minato were the one to deal with it.

Mikoto and Kushina were probably friends and Mikoto asked her to keep Sasuke safe (which is why he was bubbled in the house).

The administration of gem kindergartens left with the evacuation so Shikako’s belated “hatching” went unnoticed and she just hung out with the Nara clan?

Hm…

So yeah, I think there are a lot more half gems than just Naruto. Or, actually, maybe Naruto is the only half gem but the other jinchuuriki are part gems? Their gem ancestry are several generations back, while Naruto’s is more directly his mom?

Like with the theory going on that Connie might have gem ancestry since, not only was she able to fuse with Steve, but she brought up the idea that maybe there have been other half human half gems in the past.

in the strong in the real way verse, how would sasuke, shikako, and naruto feel about fusion? (and maybe kakashi too?)

I guess it depends on what Sasuke and Shikako, as the two full gems, know or don’t know about fusion. And whether or not they know Home World’s opinion of it (which I’m not even sure what that opinion is in this AU, anyway)

I feel like Sasuke and Shikako both know about fusion in theory but have never fused before–Shikako because, as far as she knew, she was the only gem left on the planet; Sasuke because he was the youngest obsidian (and obsidians generally didn’t need to fuse anyway). But I also feel like the first time any of them fuse it’s Sasuke and Naruto and on accident and more about the fact that Naruto is half gem half human.

Shikako is far more interested in the technicals of fusion involving a half gem half human and what that means for the two species. Kakashi is frankly weirded out that fusion is even a thing. Naruto is excited because he has been having trouble with his gem powers (wasn’t even sure he had gem powers).

And Sasuke meets the Kyuubi.

Internally, of course. Externally, Carnelian is more mystified at existing than anything else.

Do you have a tag for your wanderlust!Shikako/ WL!Team7? I actually love rereading those posts, haha. *vv*

Thanks, anon! 😀

So wanderlust!Team Seven would be tagged with Heathens Outside And Ready, though there’s only the single one shot for now.

Wanderlust!Shikako is more of my general headcanon for future Shikako, so it appears in multiple series and brainstorm threads. Unfortunately there’s no unifying tag for those…

… yet?

The main wanderlust!Shikako ‘verse I can think of would be the same AU as Colour Time/Paint With All The Colours Of The Wind, ie “everyone accidentally ends up a reality TV star, and Shikako’s is a mix between Indiana Jones and Bear Grylls,” but it’s not all tagged with the same thing. Of course, there’s also the NaruKako Naruto’s POV of it in Waking Up Starstruck, and the general lifestyle choice of adult Shikako in Walking Around (Like Regular People) / Our Share of the World aka my take on next gen.

I think that’s it for the most part–if there’s something else that you had in mind I’d appreciate if you pointed it out to me or described it. Otherwise, I hope those links help narrow it down, anon, I know my “shikako nara” tag is A LOT to wade through.

I loved the detail about Shikako hearing some sort of mystical music/singing when she comes near Gelel (at the start of the arc). I wish SQ would take more creative liberties so we learn more about Gelel. I love magical singing/songs being incorporated into some supernatural powers. Could you do a brainstorm on this, if you’re interested?

Hm… see the the thing is, anon, I don’t think Gelel is actually music so much as it’s just Shikako’s way of interpreting it. I’ve previously ranted about Shikako’s chakra sensor abilities here, and how, because of her “hypersensitivity” diagnosis she’s able to sense and differently interpret a larger spectrum of chakra/energy.

Unfortunately, I did also liken Shikako’s chakra sense more with touch and “normal” sensing abilities with hearing, which is incompatible with the why she interacts with the Gelel energy, but I think it sort of applies. Like. Literally no one else in the group could perceive Gelel–and I know, in comparison, that Shikamaru isn’t a sensor and Naruto (and probably Gaara as a fellow jinchuuriki) has issues with chakra perception mostly because he himself is such a large source of chakra it’d be like trying to listen for another car’s music when you yourself are an ambulance blasting sirens–but what about Temari and Kankurou? I’d actually think that Kankurou has some sensing abilities (maybe not on par with a Yamanaka) but close enough. And yet, nothing.

So Gelel’s energy is probably closer to natural energy on the spectrum that is… energy. Like. Chakra is a combination of physical and spiritual energies, then there’s natural energy, then there’s life force/souls/etc. So all chakra sensors (and even most non-sensors) can sense chakra. They can also sense physical energy (which is what a lot of Lee and Gai’s techniques are based on) and spiritual energy (which probably contributes to things like killing intent and such). Most chakra sensors cannot sense natural energy. It’s “outside of their frequency” so to speak, though people can become sages and be trained in sensing and using natural energy.

Life force is something else, not even Shikako can sense it (as we’ve seen in the Land of Hot Springs arc). She knows something is missing and something is being drained from her but she can’t feel it, where it comes from, where it’s going. All she knows is that it’s been taken and it’s going to take a long time before it’s fully restored.

Probably Gelel is somewhere between natural energy and life force. So Shikako can’t feel it the way she can with regular chakra or even natural energy (she can feel it in the air, drowning her lungs, pressing down on her skin like humidity, etc. etc.) but she can still perceive it to some extent. And I probably shouldn’t keep extending the analogy of Shikako’s sensing ability = touch vs. normal sensing ability = hearing, because that’s only to liken chakra sensing (which is obviously not something we have in this world) to senses that we can relate to, but Gelel is, again, something outside of normal sensors’ range of frequency. But still something that Shikako can perceive/interpret.

You know how there’s certain notes where humans can’t actively hear it, but they still subconsciously notice it or get affected by it? Like the fear frequency or cats purring, etc. etc. Gelel is probably like that. Or, well… maybe its more like. It’d be as if she’s “feeling” the vibrations in the air, but not actually touching it. It’s… agh, this is hard. Pattern recognition for a sense that doesn’t actually exist for a person who is atypical in that sense anyway?

That being said, while it wasn’t as important as the song of Gelel, in the Land of Hot Springs arc Jashin’s presence had a very distorted “sound” in comparison. SQ’s writing style for that chapter hAD a lOT oF thIS gOiNG on and the way Jashin communicated with Shikako directly was very much so “whispered / echoed / transmitted”. Even at the Fire Temple, I imagine the energy there was sort of humming or chanting–the monks harmonizing with the Temple.

Maybe that’s just how she interprets gods? If most people/things are a feeling to her, then maybe gods are a sound?

Sorry, I know this isn’t really about magical singing/songs, but this is just how I interpret the song of Gelel…

So just to clarify, are you planning on writing that story about Aoba being Shikako’s archangel or whatever? Because if you are not, I am very interested in trying to give it a shot, that’s such an amazing concept. I’m just not sure if it was an idea or the beginning of something you are planning on fleshing out. I would absolutely give you credit for the idea and everything, I just really like it and would love to read a story about that. Any way I can.

Hey captain, thanks! Glad you like the concept 🙂

I’m going to be honest: while I would like very much to write the Archangel Aoba fic, I don’t think I will do much more than, maybe, three parts at most before getting distracted away from it–and this concept does deserve better than that.

Unfortunately I have some ideas for a few scenes, certain points that I would want this fic to touch on, etc. etc. that makes me reluctant to hand it off entirely to someone else even though I know that’s horribly selfish given what I said earlier.

That being said, is there any way you would be amenable to further discussion about this potential fic-to-be or collaborate brainstorming/world building similar to what I did with the Team Medic!AU with kuipernebula?

Obviously, I would not want to railroad you into following my imagining of this fic, but I hope I can kind of pass along certain aspects that are important to me that you would also enjoy and adopt for your own or maybe we can come up with modifications together…

do you know about homestuck? since it’s 4/13 right now (with no upd8, but a new update from dos!!) it got me thinking what if the rookie nine/konoha 12 (13..?) played it in an au. i’ve got a lot more going on in my head (like whether the jounins would be their ancestors and other countries as trolls) but i wouldn’t want to get over my head if you didn’t know it. the story is really reknown for its world building and i feel like a dos (a worldbuilding oriented story too) au would fit this!!

Sorry, I don’t know much about Homestuck, but congrats on its… birthday? Anniversary?

@wildtabbykat actually sent an ask in previously about a DoSxHomestuck crossover/fusion thing which you can check out over here

Maybe the two of you can collaborate on such a crossover/fusion?
