Hi anon, thanks for the prompt. Awkward kidfic sounds like it’ll be fun! 🙂

Though I think I’m going to have to do something like “Five Cousins Shikadai Might Have Had” kind of thing instead of just one strictly Shikaara kidfic…

It’ll probably have some Kareru from You and Me and Baby (Makes Fifteen), the as of yet unnamed but brainstormed Shikasuke kid, and… well. I dunno yet, we’ll see?

Okay, anon, so I went and did some research and I’d kind of like to get your opinion on something but since you’re anon I obviously can’t message you hence reblogging this post. So here’s the issue:

I’m looking at the Narutopedia pages for Gaara’s kids and it’s very easy to interpret them as being adopted (in part because none of them look like him and also because it only says that they’re part of the Kazekage clan and that Gaara’s their father but no mention of a mother). And I personally headcanon that Shikako and Gaara would adopt anyway. So I guess what I’m saying is, do you mind if I just use the canon second-gen Sand siblings as Shikako and Gaara’s kids?

I mean, it’s not like we know very much about them anyway. So I can just make up how Shikako and Gaara (and probably Kankurou) would raise them in Suna…

What do you think, anon?

Excellent! 🙂

Aaand I might as well say that “today” (September 3rd) is a missed post because I’m still working on this ficlet–should be posted up for September 4th’s post.

Hm… well…

Trust me, anon, when I get to the next gen Sand Sibling installment of Dreaming of S(omething) there will be enough feels about heritage and succession and family that I don’t think biological relation is necessary.

I may borrow original!anon’s idea that Shinki is from an illegitimate branch of the Kazekage clan–because he’s clearly the one I want to pick on most–but other than that… I dunno, it just doesn’t vibe with me?

And, well, there will probably be more drama than fluff–but I will try my best to make it happy resolution drama? 😀

Instead of clouds, Sakako watches the void between stars. I mean, with the cosmic implications of Falling into the Black and the incredible perceptions of the Sharingan, and all… (really liked the cousins chapter, though my first thought was that Sakura and Sasuke had still ended up together, and named their kid after Shikako. Instead of after Salad.)

That’s so–HEAD CANON ACCEPTED!

“By the time the light from some stars gets here, they are already dead. For those stars, we see only their ghosts. We see their light, but their bodies perished long, long ago.” – William Herschel

All starlight is from millennia and eons long past. If her version of the Sharingan–warped by the Nara’s penchant for the shadows–can actually see ghosts, then she probably finds stargazing comforting. Everyone can see these ghosts, she is not alone in this.

(I actually wasn’t sure whether or not Sarada should exist as well but considering Shikako has displaced Sakura on Team Seven, there wouldn’t even be that smidgeon of a relationship between Sakura and Sasuke that would lead to canon Sarada.

I mean, unless there’s some kind of Uchiha repopulation program going on and Sakura volunteers because she wants a child but understands that it’s not a romantic entanglement with Sasuke? So Sarada might still exist somehow… or a Sakura-Sasuke child named Sarada, not specifically the canon iteration of Sarada.

But DoS Sakura is a lot different than canon Sakura, she’ll probably find and fall in love with someone else entirely and, if she wants, start a family with them instead of having a platonic child with her childhood crush.)

edit: check out Walking Around (Like Regular People) for more Sakako Uchiha

I did like it very much! I also really liked how Shikadai seemed Nara, but also very different from both Shilamaru and Shikako. I look forward to any more there might be, and honestly would be fine with a blathering of feels!

Thanks! I’m glad you like it 😀

I’m not keen at all on the whole “next gen is a repeat of previous gen” thing going on in canon, because that’s just… what. But you gotta work with what you’ve got. That being said, Shikadai is probably the most interesting for me because Temari is his mother and his existence is possibly a matter of international politics.

And even if its not, I just like the idea that he’s caught between two worlds and two cultures, and even though the decision has been made for him which one he’ll belong to (Nara/Konoha) I like the idea that the other side still compels him. Also, there are repercussions to people falling in love–not always good–Temari has left her position of prestige and even though she’s not actively hated in Konoha it’s a far cry from how she’s treated in Suna.

I hope that, whether canon or DoS future at least, Shikamaru takes note of this and the two of them travel back to Suna frequently. But, again, there are repercussions to even this good-intentioned act: probably, Shikadai is frequently dragged along or left behind to be watched with family members or Team Ten’s families. But I think it’s probably better in DoS future–or my head canon for DoS future–since Shikako frequently travels and its established that Kareru gets passed around the Konoha Twelve for babysitting.

I just wanted to say that I really like your last untitled post with all the little snippets. I really related to the first one as another child of immigrants. I think you really conveyed that we only have some of our parents’ culture and that hurts. Um, I also really liked that tone and melancholy (?) of all of the snippets (i kinda feel that that’s mean but). Anyway, hope everything’s ok with you.

Hi, I’m glad you liked them. And thanks for asking, I really do appreciate it. I do love writing fanfiction, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes being able to write nonfiction is freeing. Its not mean at all–I’ve been dealing with depression for the past year or so, and this blog has actually helped a lot. It’s like a daily reminder that, hey, not everything is bad, hey, you’re not worthless, hey, there are people out there that appreciate something that is uniquely you.

The child of immigrants thing had always been something I’ve been keenly aware of growing up. Especially since I do have some cousins who were born/still live in the country my parents are from and seeing how much they understand each other is just like–I am missing half of this conversation and not just literally, given my lack of language skills.

But there’s good in it too, if you’re lucky. My hometown was filled with a lot of children of immigrants like me so it was interesting to see the way we fell in together, how some of us have different bits and pieces and missing others. And the way new habits and traditions form from this patchwork society–new slang, combination of food, etc–like we are building something together with parts of this and that.

I worry about Shikasuke having a child together. Uchihas usually get a lot of emotional turbulence (Pretty aure that’s canon? Might also be the Curse of Hatred, tho I don’t know about it too well), and I feel like that won’t mix well with the Nara’s thing with souls and shadows and the need to be at peace with yourself (else you’d fall into black/the shadows eat you, i guess).

Oh man, a biological Shikasuke child? Well, actually, even an adopted Shikasuke child I’d be a little worried about.

Mostly because as they are still such children themselves right now (even with Shikako’s reincarnation, she’s a teenager up against monsters and murderers and that’s really… she comes off as a very mature and mostly rational teenager, but still a teenager) and I’m hesitant to extrapolate what kind of adults and thus what kind of parents they’d be.

(I mean, I guess if I were to write something like this it would be Shikasuke child traveling back in time (or, alternatively, Shikako/Team Seven traveling forward in time) so that Shikasuke child meets Shikako when they’re all the same age.

Which would actually be kind of hilarious and… I mean, it’s happened before hasn’t it? Naruto travelled back in time to meet his parents in the anime, right? And he doesn’t even have the penchant for fuinjutsu experimentation or possible Mangekyou Sharingan omnipotence that Shikako and Sasuke do.)

Uh, anyway. I guess the thing is that on a purely biological point, an Uchiha-Nara child would be pretty dangerous. The Sharingan mixed with a spiritual predisposition for shadows? I would not want to be on the wrong end of that kunai. But I guess you can consider the mix of genes in three ways: either the child will have a genetic preference towards either the Uchiha traits or the Nara traits, the child will have both with lesser intensity than their parents, or the child will have a unique combination of the two.

(I mean, can you imagine how horrifying it would be if all the kid needed to do was connect to your shadow and you get sucked into an unbreakable genjutsu? WHYYYYY? Or, alternatively, all you need is eye contact and this kid has control of your body? OMG O_O )

That being said the other “clan traits” of the Uchiha and Nara–being powerful but emotionally unstable vs being intelligent and lazy–would probably end up in a kid that, yes, would be at risk of both clans’ psychological problems.

But you also have to consider that a lot of Sasuke’s emotional problems are because he legitimately has PTSD and basically raised himself at the scene of his family’s murder. Like… it’s surprising he’s as well adjusted as he is in canon before the Orochimaru bite.

This child would (hopefully) have at least one parent around growing up (seeing as how both of them are essentially un-killable) and possibly biological/honorary uncles and aunts, grandparents, and the entire Nara clan (Which might as well be the entire Akimichi-Nara-Yamanaka alliance) so there’s no chance of this kid ending up like Sasuke because that’s a fairly individual set of circumstances that will almost definitely not crop up again.

Will this child possibly end up like their parent because of a different reason (like Boruto basically acting like Naruto, not because he’s an orphaned pariah but because his dad is probs depressed and bad at parenting)? Yes, maybe. But I think this kid, especially seeing as how their mother was integral in making the Rookie Nine/Ten more cohesive than canon, will be the “it takes a village” kind of child than the simultaneously-put-on-a-pedestal-but-considered-a-potential-walking-bomb that was Sasuke’s childhood.

Actually, I guess maybe I should try to extrapolate what Sasuke and Shikako might be as parents… but another reason why that’s so hard for me is that I don’t actually think they want to be parents. Like, sure, Sasuke wants to “revive his clan” but that’s a lot different from “having and raising a child.” Whereas Shikako, during the babysitting missions they had early on, had been good at it but had also not been super keen on it.

That being said. DoS Sasuke wouldn’t be weirdly exiled from Konoha like canon!Sasuke is, so he would be around more for their kid’s childhood than for Sarada’s. Which is not to say that he’d be around all the time (maybe his village lockdown days will ingrain him with a sense of wanderlust, or maybe he really will just settle down okay in Konoha without the driving need to get stronger/revenge always pushing him forward) but definitely more often.

Ditto with Shikako. I mean, I kind of wrote a thing about what I thought a future/epilogue Shikako might be like but that’s literally only one of many possibilities. She, too, may prefer settling down since, presumably, the Akatsuki/Danzo/Madara/Kaguya threat has been taken care of. And we have seen her be especially academic–when not in danger, her tendency seems to be to research and invent–and staying in a peaceful Konoha would help with that.

I don’t know, anon, it’s still a little difficult for me to imagine. I mean… I actually think–if they are both active parents and, more importantly, the two primary guardians–that Sasuke would be the one who is better at the emotional matters than Shikako. Like, if that child gets scared? Shikako would probably reassure them that there’s nothing to be afraid of–which isn’t bad parenting–but Sasuke would be the one to coach that kid through their fear, be like “if there is a monster under the bed, we will do this and this so the monster can’t get you” (and then proceed to teach their child Grand Fireball, probably) which is acknowledged to be a better method of dealing with your child’s fears.

Just… conscientious snake versus rabid badger, you know?

I think this kid will be scary. I think this kid will be smart and emotional and ruthless. I think this kid will probably overstep their limits on multiple occasions, will fall into the black at least once, will hurt people around them when they’re angry. But that’s what a lot of kids are like–probably both in the Naruto world and in the real world.

This kid will have the advantage of having a loving support system. This kid will probably love their friends and family fiercely, will be loyal and the best person to have beside you in a fight and watching your back. This kid will probably invent jutsu that impress, bewilder, and exasperate people because do you know how much paperwork this is going to be? Let’s be honest, this kid will probably end up being the Hachidaime or best friends with the Hachidaime and will make their parents (and uncles and aunts and grandparents) hella proud.

So I don’t think we need to worry too much, anon, I think this child is going to be alright 🙂

edit: Wrote a bit about “Sakako Uchiha” in this ficlet here!

I’m glad you’re okay, though I hope you get better soon! D: was the trip good despite that accident?

Thanks! I’m glad it wasn’t worse (it really could have been) though now I’m dreading when the hospital bill comes 😦

Despite that though, the trip was pretty okay. I’m about as introverted as a person can be so I get stressed easily when a lot of people are involved and i have no alone time to recharge–especially when its family who I can’t just blow off and never see again–and, well, in a way, being concussed was kinda beneficial because I wasn’t expected to go out and party.

Thanks for asking! 🙂

i really liked your snippet where the devil sells his soul :) And just out of curiosity, would his soul kinda feel like jelly if you poked it? Strong jelly? Like bubble tea? A particularly unappetizing big jelly bubble thing.

Thanks! I imagine it would be kinda like a disconcertingly large and warm boba pearl. About the size of a tennis ball. And maybe it kinda stings the longer you hold it, as if the slime is caustically acidic. And the longer you touch/look at/perceive it the more it both compels and repulses you like a handheld spiritual black hole.

I mean… Probably.

Hey Jack, I binge read your DoS fanfics and I find them great. Could you continue Down Every Road? and Tsunade coming to heal Hokage Shikako one? Thanks!

Hi anon, I’m happy that you enjoy my writing, so thanks!

My main priority for my DoS recursive fic is to finish off Quest for the Queen (aka, Naruto’s POV of Tsunade coming to heal Hokage Shikako) since that one I have fully outlined and it only has two more installments.

As for Down Every Road, I have a few–very vague–ideas about future installments, but I think having Shikako x Sasuke prompts would make it easier so I could hone in on something concrete. And they don’t even really need to be very specific prompts either? Actually, I’d prefer it if they weren’t too restrictive. Maybe something like “Shikako x Sasuke, Daimyo’s Court” or “Shikasuke, ships passing in the night” or… something.

Again, I’m glad you like my fic, anon. 🙂

Shikako Nara (from DoS) is reincarnated as twin sister of Lily Evans. She becomes a muggle-born Slytherin during the Marauder’s era. How would she manipulate the First Wizarding World? Maybe ship her with Regulus?

Oh anon, oh you darling cuttlefish of an anon… oh gosh, I hope you’re not the same anon that asked for Shikako as Sakumo’s genin teammate because I hate doing this to you twice, but–I have a conflict of interest with this prompt, too.

It’s technically a Katekyo Hitman Reborn x Harry Potter crossover, but I already have a “third Evans sibling” series called Growing Strong (Burning Bright). Although it’s more about Harry’s estranged uncle Branton trying to find/recruit his magical relatives as a defense against the growing wave of Flame users from KHR canon and then along the way getting entangled in the wizard war instead. Uh… it’d probably make more sense if you read it.

It’s only five installments long for now, and I know it’s not Marauders era, but I don’t think I can commit myself to a different “third Evans sibling” series. It does sound interesting, though, and if it’s something that you want to pursue for your own story I would be more than happy to help you brainstorm the idea.

Thanks for the prompt, anon, but I don’t think I’ll be filling this one.
