how do you think people in the dos universe would react to Shikako dating? especially those close to her and protective of her (Kakashi, Sasuke, Naruto, Shikamaru, etc).

Well I sort of wrote a thing regarding Naruto, Sasuke, and Shikamaru reacting to Shikako dating (or at least, the idea of her secretly dating someone) in Don’t Hold Back… But I guess since they were mostly blindsided by the secrecy, it’s a different situation entirely…

Hm… Kakashi would be fairly hands off (though quietly menacing in the background) whereas with Naruto and Sasuke it would depend an awful lot on who exactly Shikako is dating. Naruto would get over it quicker, so long as everyone involved is happy, though if it were someone like, say, Kiba he’d probably loudly argumentative–”Really? Dog Breath?”

Sasuke would. Well, I headcanon that Sasuke has very mixed feelings about Shikako. Like obviously, he loves her, but even he’s unsure if that’s platonic or romantic love. So at first brush, he’d probably be mildly jealous regardless of who Shikako is dating, and only slowly let it go once he comes to terms with his feelings for her and once Shikako’s significant other proves themselves as “worthy” of dating her. Like, for example, if it were Gaara–”But is he strong enough?” “Sasuke, he is literally the Kazekage.” “So?”

Shikamaru, given his continued overprotectiveness and attempts to manipulate Shikako into being safe, would probably mess with Shikako’s significant other so badly. Just like, constant head games and Shikamaru bribing Academy students to annoy the shit out of them… that sort of thing. Because if they can’t handle small obstacles in their daily life, there’s no way that Shikamaru is going to give his approval. He probably pulls the “future clan head” card at least once as well as the “what are your intentions towards my sister?” Basically, Shikaku and Yoshino don’t really have to do anything because Shikamaru’s got the vetting process down to an art form.

Shikako, of course, is not impressed with any of this. It’s so unfair! No one put TenTen through all this when she started dating Shikamaru!

To which TenTen replies–”Really? You think Ino didn’t put me through a gauntlet?”

Hahaha, I dunno. Something like that, I guess.

B*tch Please drabble (2015-11-29)

Meeting my new mother for the first time–after being born again, that is–explained a lot. If Kuromaru-alpha is a very large dog, then Shiromi-mother is a giant.

Right now, Akamaru-brother and I are about the size of normal puppies, but according to what I remember, we’re going to grow to be huge. Much larger than the Haimaru-litter-packmates, larger than Kuromaru-alpha even. Well, Akamaru-brother will, at least. I’m not so sure about me. I shouldn’t even exist, after all.

“The runt has returned,” Shiromi-mother says in human language, her voice is deep and strong–no doubt corresponding to her massive lungs.

Kuromaru-alpha and the Haimaru-litter-packmates are about the size of dogs I’d seen in my previous life; like a Great Dane or a Saint Bernard, except far more ferocious looking. But Shiromi-mother was an impossibility–a dog the size of a bear!

No wonder Kiba-brother would one day be able to ride Akamaru-brother! I don’t know if I’ll get that big, too. I’m the runt, a puppy that shouldn’t have lived and a person that shouldn’t exist, I don’t know anything about my future.

“Shiromi-mother,” I say, in my small puppy voice, steeling myself for the conversation.

“Oh? The runt has something to say?” Shiromi-mother doesn’t mean to be cruel, it is how a higher ranking packmate should talk to a lower ranking one. But it’s such a deep contrast from what I remember of my own mother, that I can’t help but feel hurt.

“I don’t want to be a breeder,” I say, as calmly as I can, even though this is something that twists me up inside. I want to do what’s best for the Inuzuka clan, and any female–even a runt–is something precious, a future mother to continue the line. And, well, it’s true I am scared–the world is a dangerous place, and Inuzuka familiars are expected to keep up with their human counterparts.

But I don’t want to just be some puppy-making machine, no matter how well treated breeders are. I want to be able to change the world–or at least help keep my part of it safe.

“I want to be a ninken!”

A/N: Realized it was midnight and scrounged together a tiny scene from B*tch Please. Hehehehe, it’s pretty fun.

B*tch Please drabble (2015-11-22)

The first few weeks of my new life was somehow both boring and frightening. I couldn’t see anything, could barely hear anything–all I could do was feel the way others effortlessly moved me about.

For some reason, I was small and so incompetent, that others needed to help me with absolutely everything–moving, eating, cleaning myself–it was pretty embarrassing.

My hearing and sense of smell kicked in soon enough, oddly before my sight did, which made my situation less frightening and boring. But also more bewildering.

My name is Aomi, I used to be a girl who enjoyed manga. Now? I’m the littermate of Akamaru and one of Inuzuka Kiba’s ninken.

I’m a fucking dog.

Communication is different when you’re a canine. Yes, there are some vocalizations–barking and whining and, occasionally, if Kuromaru-alpha doesn’t catch us fast enough, howling about the injustice of having to wait for dinner–but a lot of it is body language. A wagging tail is obvious, even non-Inuzuka humans know what that means, but even the tilt of a head or the splay of our legs can mean different things.

That being said, I didn’t fully think through just how well Inuzuka really understand their ninken.

“Danzo-asshole,” I growled, head tucked down from my customary spot in Kiba-brother’s hood–while Akamaru-brother preferred to rest on top of our human partner’s head, I liked the warmth and relative privacy of the hood; like a hammock just for me. “God, that bastard just needs to fuck a cactus and die.”

Akamaru-brother, being a relatively normal ninken puppy, whined and flicked his ears in confusion. Kiba-brother, being a fairly uncouth seven year old boy, snickered at my statement even if he didn’t fully understand everything.

Tsume-alpha, on the other hand?

I yelped, kicking my paws out futilely as a comparatively large hand plucked me from my warm spot by my scruff and shook me in scolding.

“Just where did you learn that kind of language, Aomi?” She asked, teeth bared in a sadistically pleased smile, “Kiba! You’re not being a bad influence on your ninken are you?”

While my human partner and littermate protested such a thing, I whined, turning my head this way and that in conflicting efforts to escape and show submission. Kuromaru-alpha, from his place on the floor, looked up at me distinctly unimpressed.

Eventually, I ceded defeat, tail tucked between my legs and beseeching puppy eyes on full blast.

“Nice try, pup,” Tsume-alpha laughed, before tossing me through the air. Before I could land on my feet, Kuromaru-alpha snapped me up, fangs gentle on my puppy skin. I’d witnessed him bite through a kunai once, and knew what kind of power he could wield–but he was my alpha, and for all that Akamaru-brother and I were annoying and mischievous, he would never seriously hurt us.

Tsume-alpha walked toward her study–a disorganized mess of scrolls and furniture that somehow expertly managed the Inuzuka Clan, Konoha’s Sensory Squad, and the Veterinary Department of the hospital–and we trailed behind her obediently.

Her tattoos and wild features looked out of place sitting at a desk, and yet she looked all the more dangerous for it, “Now then, Aomi, how do you even know councilor Shimura Danzo and just why do you think he needs to die a painful and shameful death?”

The best and worst thing to happen to me in this second life–barring the whole having been reborn at all thing–was definitely Juujin Bunshin.

For Akamaru-brother, when he and Kiba-brother used the technique, they became mirror images of each other. But when I used it, I turned into myself. Or, rather, the myself I used to be before I became a dog named Aomi.

“Whoa,” Kiba-brother breathed, face as astonished as I felt.

I pressed my hands–hands, not paws!–to my cheeks, passing it across my face. No muzzle, a dry nose, lips–soft, sparse peach fuzz instead of thick fur.

I ran to the slowly moving stream cutting through Team Eight’s training grounds, my brothers and hunting mates following after me. The water was glassy enough that I could see my face. My human face.

And it really was mine–even with the Inuzuka tattoos which I never had before, it was still recognizably me as I had been.

Human.

“I’m human!” I barked, then paused, “I’m human,” I tried again, but only a whimper escaped from my throat.

“Aomi-sister,” Akamaru-brother whined, crowding close to be picked up the same way he did whenever Hinata-hunting-mate needed cheering up.

“Aomi,” Kiba-brother said, so low and soft that I knew something must be wrong.

“I’m not human,” I cried, letting my brothers wipe away my tears.

A/N: Some random excerpts from a Dreaming of Sunshine inspired semi-humorous SI!OC fic in which said SI!OC is not reincarnated as any human but, rather, as a puppy.

I don’t think I’ll pursue this seriously, but the idea was pretty fun to play with so no doubt more snippets will hit me later on.

Anyway, some unnecessary headcanons under the cut!

Aomi was the runt of the litter and probably would have died had it not been for SI!OC’s soul clinging tenaciously to life. She also turns dark blue when she eats a soldier pill in contrast with Akamaru’s red.

Like Shikako of DoS, Aomi is a fair bit more motivated than her twin (not that that’s hard considering Shikamaru is laziness personified and Akamaru is literally a puppy) and works to be able to speak like a human–like Kuromaru and Kakashi’s ninken).

As for Aomi’s name: 青美. Well, I was considering Aomaru, since all of the Inuzuka dogs that are named are “color-maru” but then I decided I wanted a girl’s name. I chose the “mi” suffix instead of the other common girl’s names suffix “ko” because Aoko seemed too human sounding and also since “maru” can mean both round/circle and perfection, “mi” (as in beautiful) kind of fit well. So, Red Perfection and Blue Beauty for a pair of puppies.

I’ve decided not to do the Five-Man Band since I hate it and it doesn’t contribute much if anything to the analysis.

Surprisingly, Team Eight was fairly easy to do–the designations weren’t what I expected at the beginning, but they were easy.

Anyway, reasoning under the cut.

The Freudian Trio

Team Eight is an almost perfect representation of the Freudian Trio. My only hold back is that, in the beginning, Hinata (the Ego) doesn’t mediate between Kiba (the Id) and Shino (the Superego) so much as she lets them argue it out and have Kurenai (the Mentor) decide. Thankfully, Hinata’s entire character development is her gaining self-confidence so, if anything, Team Eight is become more like the ideal Freudian Trio as they grow older.

The Four-Temperament Ensemble / The Four-Philosophy Ensemble

Given my continued confusion over the Four-Temperament Ensemble, I ended up relying a bit more on the related Four-Philosophy Ensemble to make my decisions. Additionally, for this go around, I ignored the emotional vs rational binary amongst the Temperament (whereas in the Team Seven character analysis, I ignored the introverted vs extroverted).

Between the introverts–Hinata and Shino–it’s pretty obvious that Hinata is the people-oriented one and Shino the task-oriented one. Making Hinata the Phlegmatic one and Shino the Melancholic one. Likewise, Hinata matches the “Conflicted” philosophy more, whereas Shino matches the “Cynic” philosophy more (I definitely would not consider Hinata a cynic).

Amongst the extroverts–Kiba and Kurenai (I’m not entirely sure she is an extrovert, but we only ever see her in a group setting)–I believe that Kurenai is the people-oriented one. Considering her expertise is genjutsu–illusions of the mind–and her continued devotion to her students’ mental and emotional health. In contrast, I believe Kiba is the more task-oriented one–it’s not readily clear since he is in touch with his emotions (considering he’s the Id of Team Eight, he is emotions), but as far as it goes with his actions, Kiba is the kind of person to pursue a goal regardless of other people’s feelings.

With Kurenai as the Sanguine, and Kiba as the Choleric, that would result in Kurenai being the “Optimist” with Kiba as the “Realist.” Which is a little surprising to me, considering that Kurenai is the jounin sensei and Kiba the less experienced shinobi, but it… kind of makes sense. Kurenai is a recent jounin, a lot of her interaction with her team is hopeful–they’re her first set of students, she wants to see them succeed but more than that she wants to see them happy. In contrast, Kiba is member of the Inuzuka clan–which, from the outset, does not seem all that significant, all of the Rookie Nine are part of shinobi clans–but I perceive the Inuzuka clan, and Kiba’s immediate family in particular, to be very open and candid with their experience. As such, I get the feeling that Kiba is second-hand exposed to a lot of the shinobi world.

Myers-Briggs Types and Keirsey Temperament

(Review: Extroversion vs Introversion, Sensing vs iNtuition, Thinking vs Feeling, Judging vs Perceiving. _NF_=Idealist, _NT_=Rational, _S_P=Artisan, _S_J=Guardian)

As I’ve listed above, these are the types and temperaments that I believe matches each member of Team Eight.

Hinata: (I/e=A)NFP – Idealist – Healer
Hinata is comfortable on her own, but she does enjoy and crave company even if it makes her nervous (hence ambivert leaning towards introversion). Much of Hinata’s character is about belief–that she can do more and be more than her past. She remembers interactions as they affect her relationships, and is willing to take people at their words more than their past actions *cough*NEJI*cough*. Her behavior is definitely based on her emotions rather than logic. And she is more likely to wait and react than instigate activities.

Kiba: ESF(P/j) – Artisan – Performer
Kiba, unsurprisingly, is an extrovert–while he can handle being alone (with Akamaru, that is)–he is more energetic around other people. He relies more heavily on what is tangible than abstract ideas, what he (and others around him) has experienced more than what might happen in the future. Considering he is the Id of the team, its unsurprising he’s more of a Feeler than a Thinker. As for my uncertainty on perceiving vs judging, well… Kiba is reactionary and adaptable, he doesn’t plan but rather stays open for possible opportunities, but he is decisive–once he does decide on a course of action he will pull through with it.

Shino: ISTJ – Guardian – Inspector
Shino’s designations are pretty obvious, even though we know comparatively less of him. Introversion, is a bit of a guess, but he doesn’t seem to actively crave become energized by company. For both sensing and thinking, this is mostly because of the rare occasions where he does have dialogue. He lists out pieces of information and how it leads to the ultimate, logical conclusion. Likewise, this method of rationality leans toward the judging side rather than perceiving.

Kurenai: ENT(P/j) – Rational – Inventor
As mentioned in the previous section, I do think that Kurenai is an extrovert (though we know very little of her as well). Additionally, given that she is a genjutsu expert, I believe that she would rely on her intuition more on her senses because she knows just how easily senses can be fooled.  For all that she is in touch with her emotions, I don’t she is ruled by them necessarily–in some cases, I think she acts in spite of them. As for perceiving/judging, well, like with all of the jounin sensei, she has to be a little of both due to her career–as for why I think she’s leans more heavily toward the perceiving end, well, ultimately her behavior is in response to someone else’s actions or decisions.

Hogwarts Houses

I may be a little bias on this one, just because I’ve always had the headcanon that Hinata is a Gryffindor of the Neville Longbottom variety. With that in mind, Kiba would then be the Hufflepuff of the team–loyalty, determination; he’s not as much of the rabid badger Hufflepuff as Sasuke is, but he’s close. As for Ravenclaw and Slytherin, well, I’m not really sure.

Both Kurenai and Shino are intelligent, but given Kurenai’s intelligence leans more towards the creative and Shino’s the practical I tentatively say that Kurenai is the Ravenclaw and Shino is the Slytherin. Additionally, while it’s more a sign of his ability than ambition, Shino was one of two to make chuunin during the first exams. Then again, considering how difficult it must be for a genjutsu specialist to become a full jounin rather than be stuck as a special jounin, Kurenai must be ambitious as well.

D&D Alignment

As you can probably tell, I was a little unsure about alignments for Team Eight.

Hinata: Neutral/lawful Good. Hinata is clearly good–but her lawful leaning is actually detrimental to her; her character arc is her striving and failing to conform to her father’s idea of a Hyuuga heiress. It’s when she steps away from that standard that she grows into herself.

Kiba: True/chaotic Neutral. Of Team Eight, Kiba is the closest to being chaotic leaning–but while he does enjoy the occasional ruckus, he does adhere to orders so long as they are from someone he acknowledges as superior in hierarchy. As for neutral, pack is what is most important to him–so long as his friends and family are okay, he doesn’t really care about anything else.

Shino: Lawful Good/neutral. Shino is, if anything, more likely to bend the law to his own use or find loopholes which allow him to act. Luckily, he is good at heart–if in a cold utilitarian way, optimizing the most benefit for the most people; though he does make exceptions for his friends of course, hence the neutral leaning.

Kurenai: Lawful Neutral/good. Given the creativity needed for genjutsu, Kurenai doesn’t step out of line at all if ever; maybe it’s because she’s a recent jounin and doesn’t want to misstep. As for Neutral/good, I think her concern is centered around her team/Asuma/her friends–she doesn’t seem to extend that care to others. Then again, her actions aren’t inherently selfish so…
