I love my Misdreavus (in Sun), and I wasn’t expecting to–I’d never used them before, but I caught one and ran with it, and … she’s so sweet and giggly and a POWERHOUSE in battles. And I was wondering if there are any ghost types of plot-ish significance in your DoS!Pokémon AU?

Misdreavus are absolutely adorable!

Young Shikako in the Arm in Arm ‘verse is searching for Ghost type Pokemon–perhaps in order to understand her existence–but instead finds her Growlithe in the Haunted Mansion… after that, she kind of lets the idea go. Until she gets a Sableye and whatever the Gelel equivalent incident happens.

Then again, just because Sableye is her only Ghost type, doesn’t mean she doesn’t encounter others before or after then (she just doesn’t catch them). Such as whatever the Land of Birds, Kisuke Maboroshi, and chameleon castle incident equivalents are. Probably Sasuke’s Cubone turns into an Alolan Marowak (Fire and Ghost type instead of classic Ground type seems more Sasuke’s style).

Although… if Sakako were in this ‘verse you know she’d have an all/majority Ghost type team. And I actually quite like the idea of Misdreavus/Mismagius being one of her older team members. Hm, let’s see… Sakako’s Pokemon line up would most likely be:

Rowlet/Dartrix/Decidueye – Grass and Ghost

as a compromise between the Uchiha Talonflame and the Nara Sawsbuck? After all, Itachi probably decimated the Uchiha’s original Talonflame flock so the Uchiha 2.0′s clan Pokemon would be something different

image

Misdreavus/Mismagius – Ghost

Misdreavus came to Sakako very early on in her childhood with no preamble or anything. They make each other happy and no one had the heart to separate them (although, why would they?) They’ve been together ever since

image

Snorunt/Froslass – Ice and Ghost

Snorunt was actually a gift from Sakako’s Mum, from her research trip to Land of Snow to explore some old ruins. Honestly had no idea it would end up a Ghost type.

image

Honedge – Steel and Ghost

Sakako isn’t yet a master swordswoman, but she’ll get there eventually.

image

Litwick – Ghost and Fire

Actually a preference she gets from the Nara side of the family. Shikamaru isn’t the only clan member to have one of this species–Kasuga has a Chandelure.

image

Duskull – Ghost

Her most recent Pokemon. It’s not the reason why she has The Reaper as a nickname, but this little guy floating at her shoulder certainly doesn’t hurt matters. And also, “A glare from its single scarlet eye makes even burly grown-ups freeze in utter fear.” ~Sharingan~

image

Sakako’s Ghost team! 😀

(I was considering her having a Phantump–but that didn’t really match her too well and she already has a Grass type–and she doesn’t need to have one in order to encounter a lot of them. A sad amount of them, really.

Where her parents were constantly spotted with Absol, she’s probably frequently seen with wild Phantumps.)

A/N: Ask Box Advent Calendar is on!

more pokémon stuff? can be related to dos, or something else!

A/N: I was considering doing a “Viridescent: Or, Tetsuki Catches A Pikachu” ficlet–and went so far as to create her, unsurprisingly, all Electric-type team but then I realized that… I have no idea what that story would be. I think I just wanted to make a Pokemon team for her.

I wanted the title to be a little misleading–IS SHE PART OF TEAM ROCKET?–but the answer to that is, no, she just honestly catches a Pikachu for herself and ends up with an Alolan Raichu. And writing a ficlet for the sake of a click-baity title seemed not so much in the spirit of the ask box.

I had briefly thought of Tetsuki being the human touchstone for one of the Electric-type Legendaries–either Raikou or Tapu Koko–and most of her new life is acting as guardian for them because otherwise this world is too… peaceful for her. And that’d be a thing because her team only has five Pokemon and people would ask, where’s your sixth? (Her team would be the following: Zebstrika, Alolan Raichu, Alolan Golem, Galvantula, and Lanturn)

But then altogether it seemed like a little much for what would end up being a milk run life for Tetsuki. Not that she doesn’t deserve a vacation given what I usually put her through…

Other than that my current Pokemon series then would be the DoS fusion and Year With The Moon which is about a different SIOC.

Although I’m not sure what to do beyond that than just bringing them up though…

Hm, I guess here’s some random ficlets from Year With The Moon?

Ember exhales, face tilted upward, enjoying the way her breath puffs out in a cloud. For a brief moment she entertains the idea of being a Pokemon, ready to unleash her power at a moment’s notice, before chuckling at her own thought.

Curious, Sandshrew climbs up her shoulder and chitters, nuzzling against her cheek.

She smiles, smooths a hand across her Pokemon’s back, and continues walking, head still tilted upwards. Ahead of her Clefairy skips from footprint to footprint, dancing in the trail of Ember’s brother and friends.

The sky is clear, the moon is full, the stars are bright, and tonight is a wonderful night for traveling with the people and Pokemon she loves.

Yes, this is a good night.

///

She and Misty share a tent, sleeping bags curled together for warmth, whispers exchanged in the close space between them.

It’s nice.

Ember never had many… any… girl friends in Pallet Town, more than satisfied with what she had with Ash and Gary. Daisy was more role model than peer, years ahead of them to do more than act as guide, and so there wasn’t much for her there.

Misty, it seems, had a similar yet opposite problem–too many sisters but all of them older and beyond her.

Ember curls closer, lays a gentling hand on her excited, nocturnal Pokemon, and falls asleep with a smile on her face.

///

Gary is the first awake, a decade of discipline hard to break, but the care and feeding of Pokemon is so much satisfying when they’re your own.

Brock and Misty follow soon after, gym leader lifestyle no easier to forget, while the twins trail after. They lean against each other, practically propping each other up, eyes reluctant to open even as the others tease and berate them.

Breakfast today is berries and leftover onigiri–if they keep up a good pace, they’ll be in the next town by lunchtime and can have a real meal there.

Ember recalls her sleeping Pokemon to their Pokeballs, grumbling half-heartedly at their luck, before stretching, preparing for their journey ahead.

She is happy.

Ask Box Advent Calendar is on!

Shikaku with Leafeon and Yoshino with Umbreon, tho. ‘Cause Leafeon requires a stone (costs money), but Umbreon only requires friendship and the night. And … well, what if the eeveelutions they ended up with only clicked after they met each other?

OOOooooOOOOoooOOh!! (☆▽☆)

I like this idea very much, anon.

TWO Eeveelutions in the family watching over the Nara kids and being cuddle partners. And while neither of the twins ended up with an Eeveelution themselves, maybe Kinokawa has one (OR TWO?)

I just found your pokemon au and it’s so cool! can’t believe I didn’t see it earlier! for eeveelutions, (bc everyone’s gotta have one, y’know? lol) I was thinking of a leafeon for kako because gelel = nature? maybe the gelel stone acts sorta like the leaf stone that leafeons need to evolve and so she gets a leafeon after the gelel incident!

jacksgreysays:

😀 Thanks!

The Eeveelutions also have a place in my heart (there was once I time I was considering doing a series of embroideries for them before… well… embroidery is very time intensive and I’m still not yet done with my second project) and IRL I would probably be a crazy cat lady but with Eeveelutions if it were possible, but alas…

Seeing as how there isn’t a Rock-type Eeveelution (yet…) I agree that Leafeon would be the most suited for Shikako or maybe just the Nara clan in general? What with the colour scheme and the medical expertise and forests and such. Frankly the only person who is better suited to Leafeon would probably be Tenzo/Yamato…

But while I agree that Leafeon is the best suited Eeveelution for Shikako, I don’t think Shikako would have an Eeveelution in my particular PokemonxDoS ‘verse.  I’m fairly satisfied with my choices for her team.

Although, now that I consider it some more, you want to know what would be hella cute? Shikaku having a Leafeon. Like. This battle experienced yet still adorable leaf fox/cat thing just following the twins around while they’re children. It’s there when they first learn to walk (“little cat foot” anyone?), lazes about in the sun beside them while they nap, an ever present guardian until they’re strong and old enough to be on their own (or, at least, until they have Pokemon of their own).

Ino-Shika-Cho Dad Edition all having Eeveelutions would be the CUTEST thing, I think: Leafeon for Shikaku, Espeon for Inoichi, and I’m thinking either classic Eevee or Sylveon for Chouza. I mean, I don’t know who their jounin sensei was, but I feel like whoever they were gave each of them and Eevee after their graduation so their respective Eeveelutions have been with them for a long time.

AAAAAAAAH! I AM SO FOOLISH!

UMBREON

-_- what was I thinking?!

I mean… unless everyone THINKS Shikaku is going to turn his Eevee into an Umbreon, but surprises everyone by going with Leafeon instead

After all, he’s not very big on doing what’s expected of him…

not really for the a fake fic event, but in the pokemon!dos fusion, if team 7 were pokemon what reflected their personality and such, what ‘mons would they be? Like, I’d imagine Naruto to be Ampharos, haha. They’re electric-types who can light up their tail so bright that they can guide people who are lost. Electric types are also sporadic and tends to be overexcited too! Oh, & Sasuke can totally be a Luxray, what with their temperament + special, enhanced eyesight that can look through things!

(2/3) I want to say that Shikako is a Xatu?? Psychic type, sees the future. (It also “eyes the sun’s movement” a lot) I’m torn between that and Azelf (the latter can learn explosion! woa) And Ino is totally a Florges or Milotic! No questions there aha. Sakura’s a shiny Lopunny who goes into Mega-form when doing her super strength! aaaa it’s so much fun to play in your pokemon!au. Hope you don’t mind that I’m just rambling all over the place. (> v <)

(3/3) I guess my ideas isn’t really “if they were a pokemon, what ‘mon would they be.’ Rather, it’s what fits them best? Like, sure ninetales = kurama, and fire-types can be just as spunky and exuberant, but ninetales is a wise, mystical, almost deity-like pokemon, and that doesn’t really fit Naruto’s character. Ampharos might be a bit of a stretch, but I find their type & special characteristics to be more appropriate, yea?

No worries, anon, ranting about Dreaming of Sunshine and Pokemon is one of my favorite things 😉

The Pokemon teams in my AU were more representative of the characters’ abilities than their personalities, so I never really thought about it. I mean, the clan kids have their “clan Pokemon” of Sawsbuck and Politoed and Talonflame, etc. etc., but I suppose as Pokemon themselves it’d be different.

Like the difference between the normal Pokemon games and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, I guess?

At the same time, though, I do like the idea of them being their clan Pokemon and just having different personalities. Like, Shikamaru and Shikako are both Deerling, but Shikako is super adventurous while Shikamaru’s just… nah, I’m gonna chill here. And then whenever someone is exasperated with him they’d be like “Are you a Deerling or are you a Slakoth?”

Although Ino as a Grumpig doesn’t work so well, even though that is what I have as the Yamanaka clan Pokemon. Maybe a Delcatty? She never really had a Feebas phase, so probably not a Milotic… Unless she’s just the most fabulous Grumpig that every lived.

And I figure Sakura would probably be within the Chansey line given they’re healing and the super powerful physical attacks…

But, yeah, I haven’t really thought about making them Pokemon. It’s an interesting idea, anon!

Ask Box Event Still Open!

Chouji with a Beautifly tho!! *v*

Gotta respect that clan iconography 😀

I did originally posit Butterfree instead of Beautifly, though, because I have a soft spot for the classics and also I was concerned about Wurmple’s whole… “it might turn into a Beautifly but it might turn into a Dustox instead” and there’s no real way to control that on a massive scale which the Akimichi would want to since the Butterfree is their clan Pokemon.

I’ve just discovered your DOS Pokémon team ideas (10/10 by the way) and I was wondering if you had any ideas for team 8?

Just got home from traveling, anon, so I appreciate this ask as a quick post for today. Also, thank you! I’m oddly proud of the DoS Pokemon ‘verse even if it’s mostly ranting and brainstorms.

Team Eight I have some ideas for, but not as concrete as Team Seven or Team Ten (given the “screen time” for those two teams are way more than the others) so the following are pretty quick and less specific than those ones… [[will maybe add more detailed reasoning later?]]

Hinata:

Kirlia (to become a Gardevoir–the Hyuuga clan Pokemon are Ralts and are generally trained towards becoming Gallade)

Whismur

Buneary

Litleo

Audino

Togepi

Shino:

Ninjask (and Shedinja)

Pinsir

Volbeat

Kricketune

Scyther

Heracross

Kiba:

Lycanroc (as Akamaru, particularly Midnight Form as the equivalent of when he eats soldier pills)
… but after that I don’t really know since I gave Kakashi the all dog team… I guess if I could break down Kiba and Akamaru’s attacks/abilities into Pokemon equivalents?

I love your pokemon au! I also love the tidbit about Shikako’s Arcanine. Like, I can imagine a little stray Growlithe following academy-team 7 around and Naruto is just begging to take care of it, and Shikako ends up doing it cause she has an actual home where it can stay (Naruto’s an orphan and pretty irresponsible), but the pup offers all three companionship and it just warms my heart to think about lil kids taking care of this pup haha.

jacksgreysays:

Maybe growlithe is shikako’s “starter” rather than a traditional Deerling? Like, the clan sees that Shikako’s basically taking care of it on her own, so they let her have the Growlithe to start with anyway. (2/3)

And maybe the deer contract consists of Virizion or Keldeo +a bunch if Sawsbucks, and thats where she earns a Sawsbuck instead? Waah, I’m just really craving a lot of Pokemon!DoS stuff, especially the worldbuilding of a Pokemon-DoS fusion. (3/3)

The thing is, I did want the Growlithe to be specifically Shikako’s. Like, everyone’s team is distinctly their own. Sometimes in crisis situations or in very messed up situations (which, granted, happens frequently with the Lucky Sevens) they’ll have to muddle through partnering up with their teammate’s… team… but otherwise Growlithe (and eventually Arcanine) does prefer Shikako.

Which is not to say that it wouldn’t cuddle up to the boys if they were in need of it, but probably only after making sure Shikako doesn’t need a cuddle as well and after getting permission. Like service dogs. They can be affectionate with strangers, but when they’re on the job, they are focused on their human and their human is their priority.

In the Pokemon-DoS fusion world, Academy students can get up to two Pokemon before graduating. Their third is the more traditional “go to the lab and receive a Pokemon” and that’s only if they graduate and become genin. Non-shinobi can have two Pokemon, but only shinobi can have more than that. So Shikako “starts” with both Deerling and Growlithe.

I did do some brainstorming about how there are Nara clan myths about “a legendary deer Pokemon with the power over life, whose very presence can create vast forests” etc. etc. And that’s Xerneas. But since Xerneas only shows up once every thousand years, it’s been assumed to be an exaggerated account of a very powerful Sawsbuck.

I’m never sure how Legendary Pokemon ought to be considered. Are they gods? Cryptids? Is it considered a religious thing or a historical/mythological thing or a deluded conspiracy theorist thing? Virizion and Keldeo (who is more horse/unicorn than deer, in my opinion) are a little too OP to be so accessible to the clan members. Maybe Sembei-obaasan once fought alongside Virizion long ago during her trainer days, but I don’t think it’s a current part of anyone’s team?

I will… well. Here’s some review response for now, because it’s already midnight and I don’t want another missed post, but I will ponder actual writing post for tomorrow.

Thanks, anon! 🙂

A/N: As promised! Some Shikako-centric world building in the Arm in Arm ‘verse. Enjoy!

The Nara clan compound is not as calm and sedate in the mornings as their members appear to the public. Or, perhaps, their calm and sedate reputations is because they are so exhausted by their chaotic morning routine:

Everyday, the unlucky younger members of the clan go harvesting for medicine ingredients.

Which, perhaps, sounds like a mild and even, possibly, calming venture. After all, people throughout the Land of Fire–and even beyond–travel to pick berries from the Aburame clan orchards and buy their premium honey. And, perhaps, if it were just picking berries from trees, all would be well.

Trees don’t walk around, after all.

Trees don’t run away at the slightest hint of movement, or charge at unsuspecting harvesters, or indulge said harvesters for a few seconds before getting bored and galloping away while smaller trees nose at the harvesters’ pockets for treats or maybe chin scratches or maybe just to be irritating and get out of trouble with their giant adorable eyes.

Sawsbuck change with the seasons, as do their antlers–their velvet is what makes Nara brand medicine so much more effective.

At the cost of so many younger Nara clan members’ dwindling patience.

Bizarrely, for a village with such a large and growing population, there are many abandoned sectors.

The most notorious being the Uchiha clan compound, of course, but there are other, smaller houses and neighborhoods that are just empty.

Of humans, of course.

Shikako doesn’t know what possesses her–figuratively, that is–to explore the Haunted Mansion in southern Konoha.

No, that’s a lie, she probably wanted to find a ghost.

Ghosts imply souls, imply something beyond death, and she already knows that exists, but still. She wants confirmation.

Or reassurance, maybe.

At the end of it, she comes out not with a ghost type, but a Growlithe that reminds her to focus on living than dying.

Shikako is the only one who sees it in Land of Rivers, then Land of Wind. She supposes it’s because its dark purple skin blends into the shadows, but all she can see are its sparkling red eyes and wide, sharp grin.

It guides her–and, in turn, their makeshift team–towards the shrine of Diancie where they arrive in time to stop Haido’s plan.

At the cost of Shikako’s life.

(It’s okay, it’s only temporary.)

I love your pokemon au! I also love the tidbit about Shikako’s Arcanine.
